Family and friends are rallying around a Northern Ireland dad to help him receive the treatment he urgently needs for pancreatic cancer. Aidan O'Neill, 58 and from Crumlin , was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer back in January 2022 after experiencing stomach pains over the Christmas period. The prognosis for survival wasn't great, with a likelihood of him not surviving past two years. But the dad-of-three managed to beat the odds after being told his condition was palliative and inoperable. His recovery was thanks to cutting-edge research and treatment by Clinical Oncologist at Genesis Care, Dr James Good and Charles Imber, a pioneering pancreatic surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic in London, Aidan underwent chemotherapy, SABR treatment, and surgery, achieving remission. But after the disease recently returned, Aidan now faces a new battle as his long-time friend Shauna Gibson explained: "Unfortunately, Aidan experienced a recurrence of cancer a few months ago. Back then his medical team believed that if the disease could be stabilised with chemotherapy, SABR treatment could be used again. "After enduring seven gruelling sessions of the tough Folfirinox chemotherapy regime, Aidan’s recent scans show the disease has stabilised. He's hanging in there as it's a really brutal and strong treatment. His team at Genesis Care has now recommended that this is the right time for SABR treatment." SABR (Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy) is an advanced technology that uses precision medicine to target only the tumour, delivering maximum radiation while sparing surrounding tissues. This innovative treatment offers the potential to put the tumour into remission for a longer period, and clinical trials have shown promising results. Shauna says this is Aidan’s best chance of the most time with a better quality of life. Despite his illness, Aidan astounded his doctors when he managed to complete the Dublin Marathon in October while wearing his PICC line for chemo. "That's the energy levels that Aidan has - on his good days he's running and on bad days he can't get off the sofa. The doctors couldn't believe that he's still running after all the chemo," she added. His friends at RunAnon Crumlin, where Aidan is still coaching and running, have set up a fundraiser to h elp Aidan get this urgent SABR treatment, which has already raised over £15,000, in only a few days. They said: "SABR will also buy us time to explore the latest developments in pancreatic cancer treatment, such as immunotherapy. Dr Good has already connected us with leading experts in this field. Unfortunately, SABR is not currently available through the NHS , and we need to raise the funds to make this treatment possible. They said: “We agree with Chris and Caroline on so many issues and have achieved so much together for animals, but we differ on how best to address the incredibly complex and difficult issue of farmed animal welfare. “We have discussed our work to drive up farmed animal welfare standards openly at length with them on many occasions and it is simply not true that we have not taken urgent action. “We took allegations of poor welfare incredibly seriously, launching an independent review of 200 farms which concluded that it was ‘operating effectively’ to improve animal welfare. “We are taking strong steps to improve oversight of welfare, implementing the recommendations in full including significantly increasing unannounced visits, and exploring technology such as body-worn cameras and CCTV, supported by £2 million of investment.” The charity insisted that while 94% of people continue to choose to eat meat, fish, eggs and dairy, it is the “right thing to do” to work with farmers to improve the lives of animals. “RSPCA Assured visit all farms on the scheme every year, but last year just 3% of farms were assessed for animal welfare by state bodies,” the spokesperson continued. “No-one else is doing this work. We are the only organisation setting and regularly monitoring animal welfare standards on farms. “We have pioneered change through RSPCA Assured, which has led to improvements throughout the industry including CCTV in slaughterhouses, banning barren battery cages for hens and sow stalls for pigs, giving salmon more space to swim and developing slower growing chicken breeds who have better quality of life.”

For road connectivity under PM Gati Shakti in Rajpura, Punjab has requested ₹ 100 crore to construct a 5.6 km, 45m wide approach road connecting NH 44 to the Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Rajpura. This funding is essential for the timely completion of road construction and the successful implementation of the industrial cluster. Expressing gratitude for the Vande Bharat train connecting Amritsar with New Delhi, the Punjab government requested another Vande Bharat train to connect Bathinda, an agricultural and commercial hub, with the national capital. Gurugram, Dec 22 (PTI) Gurugram Cyber Police has arrested a man from Tamil Nadu for running an illegal SIM card racket, officials said on Sunday. The accused, Mohammad Jamil bin Mohammed Iqbal, a resident of Kuala Lumpur, used to buy SIM cards from India and sell them in Malaysia, which cyber fraudsters used to cheat people in this country while sitting abroad, police said. Police have recovered a Malaysian passport, an international driving licence, one health card, one debit card, one mobile phone, and Indian and foreign currency notes from the possession of Iqbal, who was arrested from Trichy in Tamil Nadu on Saturday. Iqbal, who arrived in India on Thursday, took more than 150 SIM cards to Malaysia on two occasions, police said. Two persons who arranged SIM cards for the accused were caught in August along with two others for their alleged involvement in duping a Gurugram resident of Rs 2.81 crore in the name of investment in stock markets. During interrogation, the accused disclosed the name of Iqbal, which prompted the cyber police to issue a look out circular in his name. As soon as he landed in Trichy on Thursday, the airport police caught Iqbal and informed Gurugram Police who took him into custody on Saturday. "Iqbal's mother was from Tamil Nadu. He also got married to a woman from the state and was well-versed in Tamil. Iqbal, who came to India with another Malaysian accomplice, came in contact with a gang of cyber thugs in February. We are presently questioning the accused," Priyanshu Dewan, Assistant Commissioner of Police (cyber wing), said.
